Outreach Peer Recovery Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Represents Ashley outpatient programming to community providers who may refer to or utilize Ashley as a resource.
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Assists with discharge planning for outpatient program to higher level of care recommendations.
  • Creation and up keep of a resource guide at each outpatient location.
  • Connects patients with community resources for recovery support.
  • To assist/coach them to develop their own plan for advancing their recovery.
  • Maintain project logs, reports and records in appropriate files and databases.
  • Demonstrates that recovery is possible by modeling (to both patients and staff) effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
  • Representation at Drug Court meetings and completion of associated documentation.
  • Document every patient or contact interaction in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • The Peer will assist with coordination of care for patients, communicating with patient’s referral sources and resources.
  • Provides support for IOP Therapist through progress reports to external resources as appropriate.
  • Engagement in therapeutic activities with patients while supervised by clinical staff.
  • Facilitates phone calls with patients and their social support for purposes of patient engagement and providing resources.
  • The Peer will assist with patient compliance for our patient outcomes monitoring system through facilitating assessments and making outreach calls.
  • Facilitates support groups for outpatient patients and alumni.
  • Trained to administer NARCAN in the event of an overdose episode.
  • Trained to utilize CPR/AED in the event of cardiac arrest.
  • Completes continuing education as required to maintain certification as a CPRS (Certified Peer Recovery Specialist).

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Minimum high school graduate of equivalent; prior experience in treatment or health care field is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of recovery tools (twelve step program, SMART recovery, Celebrate Recovery, etc.).
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Speak clearly; basic written skills; basic mathematical skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include outlook, excel and word.
  • Communicate well with patients, enforcing policies and procedures in a fair but firm manner.
  • Certifications: Maryland driver’s license, CPR/AED certification, NARCAN training.
  • Excellent driver; drive in all weather and traffic conditions; assist passengers in and out of vehicles and sit in vehicles for periods of time.
  • Requires mobility (walking and climbing steps) of a frequent nature due to the logistical nature of escorting and/or finding patients.
  • Requires own person vehicle.
