Outreach and Admissions Counselor - Victoria

About the Role

This is a hybrid role within Houston focused on recruiting eligible youth for the Job Corps Program and supporting their transition into education, employment, or military service.

Responsibilities

• Recruit eligible youth for the Job Corps Program.
• Conduct outreach activities in communities, agencies, American Job Centers, and public events.
• Meet departmental and center goals and objectives.
• Conduct orientation and interviews with applicants, including parents in the case of minors.
• Perform applicant file procedures (data entry, scan documents on e-file).
• Participate in departmental meetings.
• Coordinate with centers to support applicants in travel arrangements.
• Perform Quality Assurance Checks on all applicant files.
• Assess graduates/former trainees' placement readiness, provide appropriate referrals, and support services in accordance with DOL, Center, and Equus requirements.
• Ensure timely placement and retention of assigned graduates and former enrollees in quality jobs, the military, or further education and training opportunities.
• Promote job development through direct contact with employers, One-Stops, JTPA, and State Employment Agencies.
• Clearly communicate and consistently model appropriate CSS and employability skills.
• Maintain accountability of staff, students, and property.
• Adhere to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
• Foster and sustain a conducive environment at the center, ensuring it remains free from harassment, intimidation, and disrespect.
• Attend all required staff training opportunities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Above-average public speaking skills and experience.
• Above-average verbal and written communication skills.
• Above-average problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
• Computer literacy, specifically in Internet, email, and Word Perfect/MS Word.
• Ability to work some evening hours and periodic weekends.
• Ability to travel periodically.
• Four years’ experience working with youths ages 16-24.
• Experience working with diverse youth.

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or
• Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field, and two years of related experience.

Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• A valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
