Outpatient Staff Registered Nurse
About the role
The Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System is a Joint Commissioned accredited Level 1c complexity that includes a 61-bed hospital in Muskogee and six community-based outpatient clinics in Tulsa, Bartlesville, Claremore, Vinita, McAlester, and Idabel. In 2021, Congress approved federal funding for a new Veterans Hospital in Tulsa, which will be the first hospital built under the Communities Helping Invest through Property and Improvements Needed for Veterans Act of 2016.
Responsibilities
- Provides competent, evidence-based care to primary care patients and oversees licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the setting.
- Carefully coordinates Veteran care within the Primary Care Department, ensuring appropriate evaluation and access to patient panels.
- Manages assigned patient panels, utilizes registries, and ensures timely and appropriate care delivery.
- Engages in health promotion, health education, and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.
- Directs nursing education, orientation, competencies, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic primary care through collaborative strategies with other healthcare professionals.
- Evaluates practice based on best evidence and fosters a safe, supportive environment for professional development.
- Shares educational findings, experiences, and ideas with peers and contributes to discussions with the interdisciplinary team.
- Participates in evidence-based practice initiatives and collaborates with colleagues to support optimal outcomes.
Requirements
- English Language Proficiency: No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Education: Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by an accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
- Experience: Medical surgical, emergency room, urgent care, and women's health experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Nurse I, Level I: Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing.
- Nurse I, Level II: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 1; OR BSN with no additional professional nursing experience.
- Nurse I, Level III: ADN or Diploma in Nursing AND 2 years of professional nursing experience in which one year is equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2; OR BSN and 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2; OR MSN with no additional professional nursing experience.
- Nurse II: BSN with 2 years of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3; OR MSN with 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3.
- Nurse III: MSN and 2 years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III; OR Master's degree in a related field with BSN and 1 year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3.
Pay
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards. Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).

8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday. Telework: Not Available. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.
