Assists in carrying out patient-related activities which are pre-determined for each patient and assigned by the professional physical therapist. Responsible for the preparation, application, and clean-up of the hydrotherapy area.
Responsibilities
- Assists with patient treatment preparations: informs the therapist of patient's arrival, helps patients fill out forms, assists patients to treatment area, and aids in dressing/undressing and positioning for equipment or modalities.
- Assists the physical therapist in administering hydrotherapy.
- Under the direction of the therapist, assists patients in safe practice of activities to develop strength and endurance.
- Under the therapist’s direction, assists patients in ambulatory training procedures.
- Assembles equipment and accessories.
- Performs or monitors selected procedures and programs as assigned by the physical therapist, commensurate with training.
- Maintains neat and orderly treatment areas, manages supply levels, replaces used linens, and assists patients to and from the department.
- Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings; may perform secretarial duties with cross-training.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan (neonate to geriatric).
- Interacts with patients in a friendly, caring manner to ensure a secure and pleasant experience.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in the health field preferred but not required.
- One to three years of relevant experience; on-the-job training may be provided if needed.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.
Physical Demands
- Appreciable physical effort or strain, including occasional repetitive tasks.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds independently and 150 pounds with assistance.
Exposure Category
Category II: Tasks typically involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require performing unplanned Category I tasks.
