About the Role
The Float RN provides clinically competent outpatient hemodialysis care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Responsible for delegating tasks to care staff and participating in decision-making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities within the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) team.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient data collection and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Educate patients and families about treatment options and self-care.
- Administer medications and respond to emergencies.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and update care plans.
- Ensure proper laboratory procedures and documentation.
- Serve as a resource, mentor, and preceptor for staff and new employees.
- Participate in quality improvement projects and meet CAP requirements.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing program with current state licensure.
- CPR/BLS certification required.
- Minimum of 2 years nephrology nursing experience; at least 3 months in hemodialysis required.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving patients and equipment.
Skills
- Strong assessment skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork.
Work Environment
Includes direct patient care, computer work, and interaction with healthcare staff. May involve travel and physical demands such as standing for long periods and lifting up to 200 lbs. The role may supervise care staff and requires adherence to policies, procedures, and safety standards.
