About the Role
Performs a variety of semi-technical and clerical duties, including filling, packaging, and providing medication. Restocks to fixed levels and compounds or repackages following established policies, practices, procedures, and within Federal and State statutes and regulations. Performs cashiering duties such as collecting cash, check, or credit card payments for all collectible services.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, members, and other healthcare personnel in a caring, helpful manner and initiates service transactions using proper forms and processes.
- Refers all inquiries or issues regarding patient care or consultation to a pharmacist.
- Inputs patient and prescription information to produce labels and assist in the prescription filling process via typing or computer entry.
- Matches prescriptions with labels, selects the proper drug and quantity to be dispensed, fills containers, applies labels, and presents the completed product to a pharmacist for checking (may perform in a hospital setting).
- Prepares an adequate supply of medication for unit dose distribution as trained or qualified (may perform in a hospital setting).
- Processes clinic and hospital drug requisitions; receives, fills drug, and medical supply requests.
- Checks stock levels per schedule, removes outdated goods, and replenishes to fixed levels (may perform in a hospital setting).
- Fills and updates unit dose cassettes per determined supply.
- Assists with and/or provides medication (checked by a pharmacist), OTC products, or supplies to the correct patient in a helpful and caring manner; refers all consultation functions to a pharmacist and collects money if needed (may perform in a hospital setting).
- Picks up and delivers medications and supplies to designated areas or persons per schedule (e.g., unit dose exchange, controlled substances, floor stock).
- Calculates prices for prescriptions or orders; sells non-prescription drugs and collects payments via cash, check, or credit card.
- Verifies information accuracy on all checks, ensures valid authorization for credit card payments, validates checks and credit slips, and issues receipts accordingly.
- Balances monies, checks, and credit card charge documents daily against cash register receipts and reconciles any discrepancies; prepares bank deposits.
- Gathers and computes data for a variety of needs pertaining to health plans, non-plan, special and routine reports, studies, and statistics.
- Maintains accurate OTC charge schedules and price lists, adjusts changes, and orders routine bank supplies for the cashiering area.
- Ensures all equipment in the cashiering area operates acceptably; advises supervisor of malfunctions and reports to the appropriate service company (may perform in a hospital setting).
- Maintains appropriate levels of drugs and supplies for operations; orders, receives, stores, returns, credits, and discards drugs and supplies.
- Packs, compounds, reconstitutes, and distributes inventory for issue, transfer, or dispensing.
- Files prescriptions and any transaction documents of pharmacy operations timely and appropriately.
- Accepts responsibility for resolving immediate problems, accomplishing assigned tasks, and reporting irregularities.
- Inspects and maintains work area and equipment in an organized, clean, safe, and efficient working condition.
- Observes and complies with department policies and procedures and organizational house rules such as safety, attendance, proper attire, and continuing education.
- Coordinates and answers incoming phone calls; handles or directs calls to appropriate individuals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
- Pharmacy Technician Certificate of Registration (Hawaii) or Pharmacy Technician Certificate from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- Demonstrated ability to safely handle and/or prepare compounds such as chemotherapeutic agents, biologicals, or other medications.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, customer service, oral communication, multitasking, teamwork, and written communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
- Ability to talk to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Ability to follow and give training/instructions.
- Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
- Post-high school coursework training.
- Previous pharmacy experience or enrollment in a pharmacy technician training program.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Variable shift: Sunday through Saturday.
- Working hours: 07:30 AM to 09:00 PM.
Pay
$27.35 - $30.39 per hour.
Location
West Oahu Medical Office at Kapolei, Hawaii. Worker location must align with Kaiser Permanente's Authorized States policy. Onsite role with up to 5% travel required.
