Outpatient Pharmacy Intern

About the role

Following established policies and procedures, Pharmacy Intern 4 performs a combination of clinical, distributive, and administrative duties. This individual is allowed to participate in any practice activity of a pharmacist, provided that such activity is under the supervision of a pharmacist. As the intern progresses, and demonstrates an increase in ability, the preceptor will grant increased responsibility. This individual will also assist in the education and training of the pharmacy interns and students. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical, distributive, and administrative duties under pharmacist supervision
• Participate in practice activities of a pharmacist as permitted under supervision
• Assist in education and training of pharmacy interns and students
• Document medication histories, discharge teaching, and other clinical interventions using the Epic pharmacy system
• Prioritize responsibilities to optimize patient care and minimize adverse outcomes
• Complete a competency checklist within 3 months of completing orientation and training sessions

Qualifications

• Accepted into a doctor of pharmacy program at a degree granting institution
• Application for Wisconsin registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required by hire date and must be obtained within 12 months of hire
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital pharmacy internship program preferred

• Ability to communicate effectively with other health care professionals and patients
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities in order to optimize patient care and minimize adverse outcomes
• Ability to efficiently use the Epic pharmacy system to document medication histories, discharge teaching and other clinical interventions
