Purpose Of Position
This will be accomplished by the following:
- Care of patients (clinical work)
- Education (of self and others in the organization)
- Inquiry (research and outcomes assessment)
- Participation in the systems and processes of Gillette.
- Provides direct patient care through a combination of services, based on patient needs and the training and skills of the neurologist.
- Schedules patient care availability according to patient needs, and with approval by the Chief of Neurology.
- Participates in a team-based approach to patient care.
- May include performing evaluations and formulating management plans for new patients with neurological concerns.
- Performs appropriate re-evaluations as scheduled as well as urgent/emergent follow up of those patients who are established in our care.
- Requests appropriate diagnostic testing and follow up on results.
- Answers phone calls and messages from families and providers regarding patient care issues between visits.
- Documents work done in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Participates in the work of the Neurodiagnostic Laboratory (NDL) as privileges allow: Interpreting EEG and Video EEGs, Providing Intraoperative monitoring, EMG/NCS Management of Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS) devices, Optional - Providing Lumbar Puncture (LP) services.
- Engages in ongoing training.
- Completes required training annually.
- Participates in continuing education and learning opportunities as appropriate.
- Contributes to education programs.
- Assists in instructing pediatric residents on their neurology elective from the University of Minnesota.
- Trains and supervises child neurology residents from the University of Minnesota.
- When applicable, participates in the training of University of Minnesota Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellows on rotation.
- Participates in the education of Gillette personnel by participating in functions (e.g., Grand Rounds) when possible.
- Supports research and outcome assessment.
- Participates in research opportunities as interests and time constraints allow.
- Supports data collection needs related to research and outcomes assessment.
- Supports the translation of research and outcome measurement into practice.
- Shares research and outcomes assessment findings through publications, conference presentations, etc.
- Mets the qualifications to practice medicine in the State of Minnesota, including DEA license.
- Current certification in CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association) or must obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Board certified/eligible in pediatric neurology. Board-eligible hires will be expected to become board-certified within two years of hire. This timeline can extend pending specific circumstances reviewed by the Chief of Neurology and the Chief Medical Officer.
