Outpatient Diagnostic Coder
About the role
An experienced Outpatient Diagnostic Coder is sought to support a Hospital Billing (HB) outpatient coding team. This position focuses on diagnostic coding within an acute care hospital environment, including imaging, therapy services, and select outpatient procedural areas.
Responsibilities
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient hospital services.
- Code diagnostic imaging encounters including X-rays, MRI, CT, and biopsy-related services.
- Review and code therapy-related encounters including Physical Therapy (PT), Speech Therapy, Infusion Services, and Radiation Oncology.
- Support coding for Same-Day Surgery, Observation Services, Emergency Department (ED) visits, wound care, and Interventional Radiology (IR).
- Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards, with a target of 25 charts per hour for diagnostic and therapy coding.
- Collaborate with coding leadership and participate in quality review processes as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum one year of hospital outpatient (acute care) coding experience.
- Experience coding in a Hospital Billing (HB)/facility setting.
- Active coding certification (AHIMA certifications are preferred; relevant AAPC certifications will be considered).
- Ability to work independently and align with EST business hours.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred certifications include CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.
- Experience with Epic systems is preferred.
