Job Overview

Impact Advisors is seeking an experienced Outpatient Medical Coder to join our team. The role involves reviewing clinical documentation, assigning accurate codes, ensuring compliance, and collaborating with various teams to improve documentation and optimize reimbursement.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor Outpatient Coding work queues and unbilled accounts to support timely filing and claims submission.
  • Review patient medical records to assign and sequence codes according to industry-standard guidelines (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS).
  • Resolve Coding related edits (e.g., NCCI, LCD/NCD, modifier usage) to prevent first pass denials.
  • Maintain coding accuracy to support correct billing and minimize claim denials or delays.
  • Work closely with providers to clarify documentation and ensure coding accuracy based on organizational policy.
  • Stay updated on coding standards and regulations to ensure compliance and accuracy in coding practices.
  • Use electronic health records (EHR) and coding software to code services and enter data.
  • Participate in coding education and training as needed.
  • Follow HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines regarding patient health information.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED, with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field preferred.
  • An active Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credential required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of medical coding experience in an outpatient or specialty setting.
  • A strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Proficiency with EHR and coding software (e.g., 3M, EncoderPro, Epic, Cerner).
  • A strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Denials experience strongly preferred.

Performance Metrics

  • Coding accuracy rate greater than 95%.
  • Meet productivity standards based on specialty.
  • Timely coding within 48 hours of documentation availability.
  • Reduce claim denials related to coding errors.

Work Schedule: Remote-friendly with flexible scheduling based on project requirements. This position is a non-exempt hourly position, with additional benefits and perks available, depending on the position and employment terms.
