About the Role
The Senior Outpatient Coder is responsible for accurately assigning diagnostic and procedure codes to day surgery and observation encounters based on electronic medical record documentation, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines.
Qualifications
- An associate's or higher degree in a recognized Health Informatics program or equivalent experience
- Three years of outpatient coding experience or completion of a specialized transition program
- Certification such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCA, CCS-P, or CPC
Skills
- Proficiency in coding classification systems, medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
- Experience with electronic medical records and coding software
- Effective communication
- Knowledge of coding guidelines and compliance
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team members to ensure coding accuracy
- Review documentation and query physicians for clarification
- Maintain high-quality coding and abstracting standards
- Support organizational goals related to coding productivity and accuracy
- Demonstrate ongoing performance assessments and ethical coding practices

- Practice effective time management and support departmental standards
- May require traveling within or outside the metropolitan area
