Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located in central Arizona, near Phoenix. The mine has been operational since 1972 and has produced over four billion pounds of copper. Capstone acquired the mine from BHP in 2013 and has permits through 2039 with plans to potentially extend operations until 2050. The area offers a blend of work and leisure, with nearby cities like Mesa and Phoenix providing a good quality of life.

Position Responsibilities

• Report to the Tailings Supervisor and work in a team environment to perform laborer and/or equipment trainee duties.
• Work towards the safety target of zero harm and demonstrate Capstone's values of Safety, Accountable, Execute with Excellence, and care.
• Communicate and collaborate with others, maintain a clean work area, and ensure compliance with Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures and MSHA standards.
• Operate various heavy equipment such as motor graders, water trucks, back hoes, articulating trucks, and other heavy equipment as needed.
• Maintain grade levels, operate pipe systems, and understand water systems and pipe routes.

Position Requirements

• Required Key Competencies / Skills:
  • Ability to maintain grade levels, operate motor graders, water trucks, back hoes, articulating trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Basic understanding of maintenance and installation of pipe systems.
  • Outlying Technician 1-2 skills.
  • Participate in line out meetings and safety meetings.
  • Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English.
• Preferred Knowledge:
  • 3 to 5 years of mining experience.
  • Knowledge of open pit mining, tails, and water sequences.
  • Prior experience in a copper operation.

All candidates must complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. A pre-placement physical examination is also required to ensure candidates are 'fit for duty'. Additional training and/or testing may be required.
