Job Overview
Saronic Technologies is seeking an Outfit Build Engineer to support the design, outfitting, and integration of autonomous surface vessels. This role provides hands-on experience in vessel outfitting, equipment installation, and advanced autonomous technologies.
Responsibilities
- Aid in the design, analysis, and installation of outfit systems for ASVs including HVAC, piping, deck equipment, interior structures, mission systems, and equipment layout optimization
- Collaborate with engineering teams to perform CAD modeling, analysis, and system optimization
- Operate as liaison between engineering, drafting, and production teams to resolve technical challenges during construction
- Identify and resolve non-conformances, lead root cause analysis, and drive resolution via IRBs (Issue Review Boards) and rework plans
- Lead and coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)—ensure traceability, communication, implementation, and verification
- Support the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs
- Support documentation including technical drawings, specifications, test procedures, and as-built records for internal use, regulatory bodies, and client presentations
- Manage CAD models to document as-built changes made during ship construction
- Oversee installation of mechanical equipment, piping systems, ventilation, hatches, access panels, ladders, and deck fittings
- Perform fit-checks, clearance verification, accessibility assessments, and functional testing of installed outfit systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with maritime industry standards including ABS outfit requirements, HVAC standards, piping codes (ASME B31), and US Coast Guard regulations
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical systems, piping design, HVAC, equipment installation, and marine outfit practices
- Experience working in a shipyard environment, particularly with outfit trades (piping, HVAC, joiner work, deck equipment)
- Strong knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Rhino, NX)
- Deep familiarity with interpreting outfit drawings, isometric piping diagrams, equipment installation drawings, and P&IDs
- Understanding of piping materials, fittings, valves, pumps, ventilation systems, and marine outfit components
- Experience with spatial coordination, clash detection, and design-for-maintainability principles
- Strong communication skills across engineers, pipefitters, HVAC technicians, installers, quality teams, and leadership
- Comfortable working in an industrial shipyard environment with hands-on involvement in equipment installation and fit-up
