Outdoor School Assistant Manager

Full-time, on-site, benefits-eligible position reporting directly to the Outdoor School Manager.

About the role

The Outdoor School Assistant Manager oversees the Whitewater Center’s summer camps, outdoor education, and team-development programs. This role supports the department’s vision and expansion while managing a team of supervisors and part-time staff.

Responsibilities

• Daily management of program operations, including customer needs, staff forecasting and scheduling, emergency response, and logistical support.
• Oversee recruiting, hiring, training, and daily management of all program staff.
• Lead ongoing program development and expansion.
• Collaborate with the broader leadership team to ensure logistical needs for program success.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Certifications in CPR and First Aid.
• Prior experience in outdoor education or STEAM programs.
• Safety-oriented, patient, organized, enthusiastic, and flexible.
• Able to communicate clearly and effectively with employees and guests.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other Whitewater events as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience managing camps.
• Four-year degree in Outdoor Recreation, Business, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing a summer camp program.

Physical Demands

• Ability to work outdoors for sustained periods in all weather and environmental conditions.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stand, lean, and kneel regularly and for sustained periods.
• Ability to safely self-transport over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
• Ability to work in shared spaces with other employees and customers.
