Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education or related area of discipline with previous student teaching experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
- Valid SC Teaching License (any applicable area)
- Must have current government issued identification
About the Role
Under general supervision, instructs students in physical education skills including student development, physical fitness, cooperation, and age-appropriate 21st century skills in such a way that the individual student's needs, interests, and abilities are met. Assists in other school programs as assigned.

- Operates general office and technology equipment needed for daily activities
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all employee and student information
- Participates in all professional meetings and training sessions as required
- Requests and maintains materials needed for daily responsibilities and essential functions; provides for safe storage and proper use of all tools, equipment and materials
- Demonstrates a variety of 21st century teaching skills to foster independent, creative, critical thinkers and problem solvers
- Designs and facilitates engaging, high level, sophisticated learning experiences and applications appropriate to prepare students for a 21st century global, knowledge-based society
- Teaches concepts and skills in physical education and/or health that facilitate learning and contribute to students' academic and social/emotional development; administers the classroom curriculum for physical education and/or health as prescribed by the state standards
- Assists in the planning, organization, and implementation of extra fitness and wellness programs as assigned
- Instructs students in the proper use, care and operation of sports equipment to prevent loss, abuse, or injury
- Demonstrates and evaluates the effectiveness of both formative and summative assessments; monitors student progression in classwork and assists students with all phases of the physical education class; observes student work to make criticisms and corrections; evaluates contributions in teams
- Collaborates with school and district personnel to evaluate effectiveness of curriculum and make suggestions for improvement
- Networks with school personnel regarding scheduling issues
- Prepares various records and forms such as lesson plans, daily and weekly activity plans, assessments, material requisitions, discipline reports, etc.
- Organizes classrooms and other settings for daily instruction
- Selects, requests, and maintains an inventory of instructional aides, technology tools, equipment, and supplies needed for daily activities; provides for safe storage and proper use of all materials, equipment and tools
- Effectively uses personal computing devices and software applications for the management of student records, instructional efficiency, and professional development
- Meets with parents, administrators and school counselors as needed to discuss student performance, social and emotional needs, behavior, personal and academic goals and expectations, etc.; issues reports in accordance with school board policy to inform parents/guardians of students' progress; suggests interventions as appropriate
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibility
- Responsible for supervision of students in classrooms and other instructional settings
- Responsible for classroom materials and supplies budget (if applicable)
- Responsible for maintenance and inventory of equipment; responsible for reporting equipment malfunctions and safety issues
Skills
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Lexington County School District One Board policies
- Must be able to access reliable transportation
- Personal computer experience required
- Strong knowledge of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, electronic file management, the internet, and reporting and presentation software
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication
- Ability to apply knowledge and current research and theory
- Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule in order to meet reporting deadlines
- Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group
- Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines
- Ability to work irregular or extended hours and manage multiple demands from several people
- Computer literacy required
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and activities of the school district that pertain to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position

- Ability to demonstrate proper maintenance, safe operation, and utilization of equipment, materials, and supplies used in daily activities

Physical Demands
- Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds such as boxes of materials
- Sometimes pushes/pulls items such as furniture or boxes of materials
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and distance vision
- Occasionally works irregular or extended hours
- Frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment
Work Environment
- Noise level varies from quiet to loud depending upon the activity in the particular part of the day
- Conducts duties in a classroom environment and in outdoor settings with no significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions
- Requires constant attention working with students
- Physical demands are restricted to classroom work requiring occasional lifting/moving of items up to fifty pounds
- Occasional travel is required; limited overnight travel required
