Outdoor Custodian

About the Role

Primarily responsible for the maintenance, preparation, and cleaning of athletic facilities and grounds at Pine Creek High School, in addition to regular custodial duties. This role involves setting up for special events, coordinating with Facilities Management, and ensuring facilities are safe and operational for students, staff, and the community. Work outside regular business hours is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs custodial duties including trash removal, floor cleaning, general cleaning, and sanitizing
• Assists with safety drills, scenarios, and real-life situations as directed
• Cleans hazards, including bodily fluids and spills, following best practices and regulations
• Dusts, straightens desks, and cleans counters, toilets, sinks, whiteboards, blinds, walls, furniture, vents, windows, mirrors, carpets, and floors
• Coordinates with Facilities Management to request additional staff for setup and cleanup
• Ensures facilities are safe and operational for students, staff, and the community
• Maintains buildings and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, athletic, and play areas
• Maintains artificial and natural turf, performs groundskeeping tasks, and monitors irrigation systems
• Monitors water, electrical, sewer, HVAC systems, and assists in emergency shutoffs
• Moves, relocates, and transports materials, furniture, and equipment
• Performs outdoor tasks: mowing, trimming, edging, installing/repairing fencing, painting/marking athletic fields, watering lawns, cleaning drainage ditches, and repairing playground equipment
• Operates and maintains machinery including power mowers, snow blowers, snow plows, parking lot sweepers, and weed trimmers
• Processes and completes internal work requests and assigned work orders
• Promotes sustainability management strategies
• Removes snow and ice from roadways, fire lanes, parking lots, walks, and steps; applies sand as needed
• Sanitizes restrooms, water fountains, and other facilities
• Sets up for regular and special events
• Vacuums, shampoos, sweeps, strips, buffs, dusts, and mops floors and stairs
• Works with school and Facilities Management administrators to prepare sites for sporting and other events
• Performs minor repairs (e.g., lockers, doors, desks, lights) and assists students/staff with physical plant items
• Performs crossing guard duties as directed
• Attends training and in-service meetings
• Reports consistently for work as scheduled and performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Experience in a custodial or supervisory position (required)
• Ability to access, input, and retrieve information in various software systems
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain confidentiality
• Ability to manage simultaneous demands and work independently
• Ability to operate and care for mechanized cleaning equipment and standard custodial tools
• Ability to organize and direct tasks of non-regularly assigned staff
• Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively
• Ability to recognize safety issues in the workplace
• Ability to work days, hours, locations, and assignments as directed, including outside regular business hours
• Ability to work well with individuals from diverse backgrounds and professions, as well as students

Work Environment

• Noise levels may alternate among quiet, moderate, and loud
• Frequent in-person and communication-based interactions with students, public, and staff
• Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and on school grounds
• May experience exposure to odors, dust, fumes, and chemical cleaners
• May require extended hours or days as directed

Physical Demands

• Sits, stands, walks, stoops, kneels, and crouches/squats while performing duties
• Oral and auditory capacity for interpersonal interaction and communication devices
• Uses eyes, hands, and finger coordination for equipment and writing utensils
• Lifts or carries burdens up to 50 lbs.; pushes/pulls burdens up to 100 lbs.
• Climbs, stoops, kneels/bends, crouches/squats, crawls, twists, and reaches
• Works with arms extended at shoulder height with weights up to 50 lbs.
• Utilizes ladders or lifts as needed

Pay

$22.07–$23.17 per hour

Schedule

• 40 hours per week
• 8 hours per day
• 260 days per year
• Primarily works Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays
