About the role
AIT/Spur Freight Over the Road (OTR) Drivers operate commercial trucks, tractor-trailers, or combination vehicles weighing over 26,001 lbs. to safely pick up and deliver parcels. Drivers are responsible for maintaining accurate driving logs, inspecting and maintaining company trucks, and ensuring compliance with all regulations.
Responsibilities
- Drive truck to and from specified destinations safely, adhering to all state, local, and DOT regulations.
- Focus on safety and compliance, including real-time reporting of accidents or incidents, monitoring road conditions, and following traffic laws.
- Perform general fleet maintenance, including fueling, cleaning, inspecting trucks before and after trips, and reporting maintenance needs.
- Prepare receipts for loads picked up or bills of lading.
- Maintain driver hours of service using electronic logs and ensure rest periods comply with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and other applicable regulations.
- Provide timely communication with supervisors regarding route status, stops, breaks, and end-of-day updates.
- Ensure timely client deliveries by proactively anticipating challenges and maintaining punctual departures.
- Inspect truck equipment and supplies; ensure proper documentation of freight paperwork with time, date, verification, and signatures.
- Perform emergency roadside repairs and secure cargo using load bars, e-track, and straps during transit.
- Load and unload trucks when not driving, and operate forklifts or pallet jacks as needed.
- Handle both short-haul and long-haul destinations.
- Maintain a clean work environment and follow all safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned and comply with all company policies and standards.
Requirements
- Valid CDL Class A license to operate vehicles weighing 26,001 lbs. or greater (required upon hire).
- TSA-certified truck driver with a STA number (required upon hire).
- Current Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card (required upon hire).
- Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) (required upon hire).
- Ability to pass DOT physical exam and road test (required upon hire).
- Cargo screening certification if driving in California (required upon hire).
- No more than three moving violations in the past 36 months (or two in the past 12 months, including seatbelt and cell phone violations).
- No preventable accidents involving fatalities, bodily injuries treated away from the scene, or disabling vehicle damage within the past three years.
- No convictions for driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs within the past seven years.
- Reside within a one-hour commute of Earth City, MO, to ensure timely on-site attendance and participation.
