OT Systems Integrator

About the role

Seattle City Light’s Power Systems Automation (PSA) team is seeking an experienced, mission‑driven OT Systems Integrator to support and modernize the applications that power the utility’s 24‑by‑7 grid operations. The role serves as a technical expert for day‑to‑day operations and projects involving the Energy Management System (EMS) and reports to the IT Manager for the PSA Unit in the System Operations Center.

Responsibilities

• Support core grid infrastructure by ensuring the health, reliability, and security of Seattle City Light’s EMS.
• Collaborate with system operators, power system engineers, and field crews to troubleshoot real‑time issues and deliver grid‑modernization projects.
• Manage critical system lifecycles: safely deploy software changes, maintain system documentation, and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
• Maintain high availability by diagnosing technical incidents, coordinating with vendors, and participating in a 24/7 emergency support rotation.
• Provide technical application and infrastructure support for the EMS, including remote monitoring and control of generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
• Follow system development life‑cycle procedures for asset management, information protection, change management, cyber‑security, and NERC CIP standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in an Energy Management System, Operational Technology, or SCADA environment, preferably in an electric utility.
• Strong understanding of SCADA fundamentals and industrial communication protocols.
• Comfort navigating command‑line operating systems and working with databases.

Desired Qualifications

• General understanding of IT applications, infrastructure, and integration supporting SCADA/EMS systems.
• Technical experience in Linux and Windows environments with command‑line proficiency.
• Excellent troubleshooting abilities.
• Proficiency in programming, scripting, workflow, and automation technologies such as C, Python, SQL, PowerShell, and web technologies.
• Experience creating reports from large data sets.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, writing, communication, and briefing skills.
• Experience with requirement/design specifications, testing, deployment, and incident documentation; ability to mentor and share technical knowledge.
• Skills related to change management in mission‑critical environments.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work independently or in teams, and collaborate with users, peers, vendors, and consultants.
• Commitment to safe work practices.
• Experience with electric‑utility SCADA or other industrial control systems, high‑availability 24/7 computing environments, cyber‑security and NERC Reliability/CIP standards, IT infrastructure, relational databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, etc.), communication protocols (e.g., DNP3, Modbus, IEC 60870), and RTU/SCADA equipment vendors (e.g., SEL RTAC).

Pay

The full salary range for this position is $62.59 to $93.90 per hour.
