Responsibilities
- Review and evaluate Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) construction projects.
- Perform quality checks on work completed and ongoing projects.
- Answer questions from contractors regarding design prints and ensure OSHA standards are followed.
- Verify footage, path depth, easement adherence, sequential splicing practices, and proper splicing.
- Ensure proper equipment and materials are used during construction.
- Meet with city/county/DOT inspectors in the field.
- Submit QC inspection forms in a timely manner.
- Meet with disgruntled homeowners to address their questions or complaints.
- Explain the construction process.
- Ensure property restoration is completed to standard.
- Meet with utility locators and other utility representatives to address damages.
- Notify management of damages or incidents.
- Record any discrepancies between field and design prints.
- Preform Pre-Construction Ride outs to ensure proposed project can be constructed as designed.
- Perform construction inspections for quality control in accordance with Tillman FiberCo’s Technical Quality Assurance (TQA) standards.
- Maintain accurate records (As Built) as project progresses through the construction phase.
- Verify that property restoration is consistent with Tillman FiberCo’s standard practice.
- Operate test equipment as needed to verify optical levels are set as designed.
- Document aerial construction, underground vaults, and cabinets in still images and videos.
- Prepare work orders to resolve any elements in the plant that do not meet specifications.
- Communicate concerns about construction progress to Project Manager or Supervisor.
- Ability to work weekends or a second shift as needed.
- Perform emergency locates as necessary.
Requirements
- Five (5) years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of the outside plant (OSP) that supports telecommunications services (Telephone, CATV, and High-Speed Internet).
- Knowledge of F.O.A, N.E.C and N.E.S. C. for communications for outside plant and construction practice and inside and around buildings.
- Ability to read, write, and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight forward, and professional manner.
- Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints and system maps.
- Ability to accurately measure distances, using tapes or other measuring devices.
- Ability to take and produce clear and sharp photographic and video documentation of work performed in the field.
- Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires.
- Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.).
- Standing/walking 50-80% of the day on uneven terrain and construction sites.
- Frequent driving (day and night) to various sites.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Occasionally lift/carry up to 25 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and reaching.
