OSP Copper Splicer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced OSP Copper Splicer to join our telecommunications team. This individual will be responsible for the splicing, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of copper cable networks in aerial and underground environments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with outside plant (OSP) facilities and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and customer service. This is a Permanent position based out of Mentone, CA, fully onsite.

Responsibilities

• Splice, rearrange, terminate, and repair copper cable in aerial, underground, and buried plant environments.
• Install, seal, and maintain closures in accordance with industry standards and customer specifications.
• Test, troubleshoot, and repair copper cable systems, including outside plant facilities, terminals, wire, and loop carrier electronics.
• Locate, diagnose, and clear cable faults while ensuring network reliability and service continuity.
• Read and interpret construction prints, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Prepare cables for splicing, pressurization, and long-term maintenance.
• Monitor airflow and pressure levels in underground cable systems.
• Utilize testing equipment, including volt/ohm meters, transmission measuring sets, and other specialized telecommunications tools.
• Perform acceptance testing and documentation of newly installed cable systems.
• Complete cable cutovers due to defects, relocations, or rerouting requirements with minimal to no service interruption.
• Position and weatherproof closures and perform flash testing to verify proper sealing.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, test results, repairs, and maintenance activities.
• Communicate professionally with customers, inspectors, and project stakeholders regarding work progress or potential issues.
• Access and work within customer properties as required to maintain or repair cable facilities.
• Set up traffic control measures in accordance with local, state, and company safety requirements.
• Follow all company, OSHA, DOT, NESC, and utility safety standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing copper telecommunications cables.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience installing and repairing copper cable and related telecommunications infrastructure.
• Working knowledge of OSP telecommunications construction and maintenance practices.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and splice cables from end-to-end, including backbone and lateral facilities.
• Ability to distinguish colors accurately for cable identification and splicing purposes.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
• Fine motor skills and visual acuity required for detailed splicing work.
• Ability to respond effectively in urgent or high-pressure situations.
• Industry-recognized copper splicing and testing certifications preferred.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $63000.00 - $83000.00/yr.
