Responsibilities
- Deliver systematic, explicit, multisensory phonics instruction following the Orton-Gillingham methodology.
- Guide students through phonogram drills, red word memorization, syllable division practice, encoding exercises, and connected text reading using a diagnostic-prescriptive approach.
- Adapt instruction using multisensory techniques (e.g., sand trays, tapping, color-coded syllable cards) to support students with dyslexia or reading disabilities.
- Identify common student challenges (e.g., vowel team confusion, syllable division errors) and adjust lessons to meet individual needs.
- Emphasize individualized pacing based on student mastery and build reading confidence for learners from elementary to adult levels.
- Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring or accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of the Orton-Gillingham approach, including multisensory structured literacy, phonogram instruction, syllable types, morphology, and encoding/decoding rules.
- Ability to explain the six syllable types, spelling generalizations, and the visual-auditory-kinesthetic-tactile methodology.
- Familiarity with the Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence and common challenges faced by dyslexic learners.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt instruction to different learning styles and student needs.
