Responsibilities

• Deliver systematic, explicit, multisensory phonics instruction following the Orton-Gillingham methodology.
• Guide students through phonogram drills, red word memorization, syllable division practice, encoding exercises, and connected text reading using a diagnostic-prescriptive approach.
• Adapt instruction using multisensory techniques (e.g., sand trays, tapping, color-coded syllable cards) to support students with dyslexia, reading disabilities, or foundational literacy gaps.
• Identify common student challenges (e.g., vowel team confusion, syllable division errors) and adjust lessons to build reading confidence and proficiency.
• Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring or accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of the Orton-Gillingham approach, including multisensory structured literacy, phonogram instruction, syllable types, morphology, encoding/decoding rules, and scope/sequence for teaching students with dyslexia.
• Ability to explain the six syllable types, spelling generalizations, and the visual-auditory-kinesthetic-tactile methodology.
• Familiarity with Orton-Gillingham scope and sequence and common challenges (e.g., transferring decoding skills to fluent reading).
• Experience adapting instruction for students from elementary through adult levels.
• Strong communication skills and an engaging, adaptive teaching style.
• Ability to identify student struggles and explain concepts using multiple approaches.
