About the role

The position functions as an advanced clinical member of the Sioux Falls VA Healthcare System (SF VAHCS) Prosthetics and Sensory Aids Services service line in the role of a Mobile Prosthetic and Orthotic Care (MoPOC) program clinician.

Responsibilities

  • Assure accreditation of the CBOC locations served in compliance with ABC rules and regulations.
  • Manage administrative duties such as budget development, inventory and resources management, orthotic and prosthetic schedule oversight, goal setting, and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary orthotic and prosthetic clinics and contribute to the development of treatment plans for complex conditions.
  • Conduct patient analysis, including gait and range of motion assessments, for patients with unusual or complex medical conditions.
  • Design unique devices to accommodate patients with complex conditions.
  • Provide ongoing care, periodic evaluations, and documentation of optimal fit and function for prostheses, orthoses, soft goods, inserts, shoes, and compression devices.
  • Review and triage prosthetics requests, scheduling in-house care or referrals to external vendors based on patient needs and resources.
  • Communicate with physicians, allied health professionals, patients, and caregivers in various interdisciplinary clinical settings.
  • Provide educational in-services to physician groups as assigned.

Requirements

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree or higher in orthotics and prosthetics from a CAAHEP accredited program OR a bachelor's degree with a post-graduate orthotics or prosthetics certificate from a CAAHEP accredited program.
  • Board certification by the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) or the Board for Orthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, administrative functions, data analysis, technology, and accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide reports, train others in new technologies, and manage employees.

Qualifications

  • Completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level as an orthotist/prosthetist.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in administrative functions, data analysis, technology, and accreditation requirements.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide reports using CPRS, Vista, DSS, HCPCS codes, and other patient database information.
  • Ability to provide training to orthotists/prosthetists in new technologies and innovations in devices.
  • Ability to manage and supervise employees (if supervisory role).

Skills
