Orthopedic Recovery Nurse – Patient Hospitality Suites, PRN NIGHTS
About the Role
Our Orthopedic Recovery Nurse – Patient Hospitality Suites provides home health nursing care for patients across the postoperative period. This includes delivering services from admission, through a 48-hour recovery stage in our residential suites, and into the client’s permanent residence until discharge. Our unique care delivery model, guided by proprietary software, focuses on enhancing surgical recovery while minimizing potential complications.
As the RN, you will deliver care using the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. You will set priorities, make clinical decisions, and establish individualized plans of care for patients. You will also serve as a resource for complex decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing assessments for home health clients and develop individualized plans of care in collaboration with the client.
- Set priorities, organize workload, and interpret patient needs to deliver appropriate care.
- Coordinate care activities to foster self-care ability via home health services, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Demonstrate competence in technical, critical thinking, and communication skills for culturally diverse patient populations.
- Adhere to policies, procedures, safety programs, and customer service expectations aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
- Document patient conditions, care plans, and education processes accurately and in a timely manner.
- Supervise and direct activities of other care providers, delegating tasks as appropriate.
- Act as a patient advocate while maintaining confidentiality.
- Maintain licensure according to state agency directives.
- Prepare, administer (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV), and record prescribed medications or oversee patient self-administration.
- Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments per policy.
- Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely in the appropriate format.
- Initiate and implement patient education plans, teaching patients and significant others about post-treatment home care, medication self-administration, and rehabilitation.
- Assist in managing inventory of supplies.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Adhere to Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards and attend required in-service training sessions.
- Provide age-appropriate care for all age groups.
Requirements
- 1+ years of RN experience within a Hospital, Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), or Home Health setting.
- Active RN license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
- Adherence to Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Orthopedic experience.
- BSN, Critical Care, and/or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience.
