Hand & Microsurgery Medical Group · San Francisco Bay Area · 2 days ago

About the role

We're hiring an experienced Physician Assistant to work closely with Dr. Joshua Gordon, managing independent clinic days and first assisting in surgery. No call, no weekends, a tight-knit team, and direct, day-to-day access to the physicians you work with, not layers of hierarchy. This is a clinic-only role, ideal for a PA who enjoys focused visits, clear care plans, and working autonomously within a small practice, with real opportunities to keep learning along the way.

Schedule & Setting

Schedule: A structured weekly rotation across both locations, including independent clinic days at Mill Valley, and time at Lower Pacific Heights first assisting in surgery and running an additional clinic day to help meet growing patient demand.
Support: On-site imaging, casting/splinting, and DME; close surgeon collaboration; modern workflows
Work Locations (in person):
Lower Pacific Heights: 2299 Post St, San Francisco, CA 94115
Mill Valley: 141 Camino Alto, Mill Valley, CA 94941
Clinic hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (no weekends, no on-call)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Obtain HPI, perform focused orthopedic exams, review relevant PMH, and formulate diagnoses and comprehensive treatment plans.
  • Order and interpret diagnostics (in-office X-ray; referrals for MRI/CT; labs as indicated).
  • Perform therapeutic procedures (e.g., joint/soft-tissue injections, basic suturing, wound care).
  • Apply and manage splints/casts; fit and dispense DME appropriately.
  • Independently manage a full patient panel for new, follow-up, and post-operative visits, escalating complex or surgical cases to the attending surgeon as needed.
  • Document clear plans and progress notes; coordinate seamless follow-up and continuity of care (including surgical referrals when indicated).
  • Counsel patients on rehab, activity modification, DME use/care, medication adherence, and preventive strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an ARC-PA–accredited PA program.
  • Certification/Licensure: NCCPA certification (current and maintained), California PA license (Physician Assistant Board) by start date, BLS certification, NPI (meets Medicare billing requirements), DEA license (or eligible).
  • Experience: ≥ 4 years of clinical practice, specifically in orthopedic experience, required (hand/upper extremity experience strongly preferred); must be able to see patients and manage care plans independently
Outpatient orthopedics, urgent/injury care, or sports medicine
Confidence with injections, fracture management basics, and DME
Comfort with high-efficiency clinics and patient education

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in hand, wrist, or upper extremity orthopedics
  • Familiarity with post-surgical and fracture splinting
  • Comfort working independently in a small, physician-led practice.

Pay: $180,000.00 per year, plus bonus pay
Employment type: Full-time, exempt
Benefits: 401(k) with match, medical/dental/vision, PTO, life insurance, voluntary insurance options, professional development support, licensure reimbursement, malpractice insurance.
