About the role

The Orthopedic Assistant will provide orthopedic assistance to physicians in various settings, including the operating room, hospital, and clinic. Duties include assisting in surgeries, casting and splinting, rooming patients, seeing post-operative patients in clinic, dressing wounds, providing patient education, triaging patient calls, and other tasks to enhance patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in surgeries
  • Casts and splints patients
  • Rooms patients in the hospital and clinic
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for post-operative patients
  • Dresses wounds and provides patient education
  • Triage patient calls and addresses immediate concerns
  • Contributes to the overall quality of patient care and services

Requirements

  • Advanced medical training through military, nursing program, or other similar source
  • 3-5 years of orthopedic experience (preferred)
  • Experience in the operating room environment (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Completion of a healthcare related post-secondary education program (e.g., RN, LPN, Surgical Technologist, Athletic Trainer, Surgical First Assistant, Orthopedic Assistant, Orthopedic Technologist)
  • CPR certification required

Skills

  • Organized individual with proven efficiency in orthopedic and sterile techniques
  • Able to accurately assess patient conditions using sound judgment and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal communication, clinical, human relations, and leadership skills
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and assist the physician in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary for service provision and ensuring patient safety
  • Knowledge of personal computer and general office equipment to enable appropriate assisting during orthopedic procedures
