Orthopedic APP Clinical Fellowship (Non-Accredited)

Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine · Naperville, IL · 1 mo ago
HealthcareFull-time

About the role

The Genesis Orthopedic APP Clinical Fellowship is a 12‑month, full‑time, paid training year designed from scratch for new graduates who are serious about orthopedics and ready to do the work to get there. No prior orthopedic experience is required. The program seeks aptitude, drive, and a willingness to be coached hard by experts who know the specialty inside and out. By the end of the fellowship you will be ready to practice independently and will already have a job.

This is not an observation year or shadowing with a stipend. From day one you are embedded across the full continuum of orthopedic care — clinic, hospital, and operating room — with responsibility that grows as your competency does. You will receive structured mentorship from Genesis surgeons and senior APPs, earn progressive autonomy, and have a clear runway to a permanent role within the practice upon successful completion. Twelve months of real patients, real procedures, and real orthopedics.

Responsibilities

  • Independent orthopedic evaluations and treatment planning in the clinic
  • Fracture and acute injury management
  • Post‑operative visits and wound care
  • Injections, splinting, casting, and in‑office procedures
  • Imaging review and clinical decision‑making
  • Daily inpatient rounding
  • ED and floor consults
  • Orders, documentation, and discharge planning
  • Serving as the liaison between surgeons and hospital teams
  • Surgical first assist in the operating room
  • Pre‑ and post‑operative care coordination
  • Progressive OR responsibility as skills develop

Requirements

  • Recently graduated or about to graduate as a PA‑C or NP
  • Board‑certified or board‑eligible
  • Licensed in Illinois or in the process of obtaining licensure
  • Coachable, hungry to learn, and willing to ask good questions
  • Able to distinguish confidence from competence
  • Comfortable moving between clinic, hospital, and OR, often in the same day, handling multiple sites, rotating schedules, and real call coverage
  • Genuine concern for the patient population served — including Medicaid, underinsured, and patients who previously had limited options

Benefits

  • Competitive salary during the training year
  • Healthcare plan
  • Paid time off
  • CME allowance
  • Malpractice coverage
  • Structured mentorship and skills development curriculum
  • Guaranteed permanent Orthopedic APP role and salary increase upon successful graduation
  • Potential for pay escalation via performance/productivity bonus
  • 401(k) plan
