Experience
- Aid in orthodontic treatments, including placing and removing braces, taking impressions, adjusting wires, and applying and removing elastics and other orthodontic appliances.
- Ensure patient comfort during procedures and address patient needs.
- Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explain procedures, and address concerns.
- Ensure proper positioning of patients and ensure instruments and materials are accessible.
- Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials used for treatments, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Maintain clinical areas, keeping them clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning.
- Assist in maintaining accurate patient records by updating and recording treatment progress, notes, and X-ray results in the practice management system (EHR/PMS).
- Assist with fitting, adjusting, and removing orthodontic appliances such as retainers, expanders, and braces.
- Provide post-treatment instructions to patients regarding retainer care and the importance of regular follow-up visits.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant or dental assistant, with a focus on orthodontic procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology.
- Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
