Experience

• Aid in orthodontic treatments, including placing and removing braces, taking impressions, adjusting wires, and applying and removing elastics and other orthodontic appliances.
• Ensure patient comfort during procedures and address patient needs.
• Prepare patients for orthodontic treatments, explain procedures, and address concerns.
• Ensure proper positioning of patients and ensure instruments and materials are accessible.
• Prepare and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials used for treatments, adhering to infection control protocols.
• Maintain clinical areas, keeping them clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
• Take diagnostic X-rays, panoramic images, or digital scans as required for treatment planning.
• Assist in maintaining accurate patient records by updating and recording treatment progress, notes, and X-ray results in the practice management system (EHR/PMS).
• Assist with fitting, adjusting, and removing orthodontic appliances such as retainers, expanders, and braces.
• Provide post-treatment instructions to patients regarding retainer care and the importance of regular follow-up visits.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited orthodontic assisting program preferred.
• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as an orthodontic assistant or dental assistant, with a focus on orthodontic procedures preferred.
• Knowledge of orthodontic procedures, appliances, and terminology.
• Strong manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with patients, families, and the orthodontic team.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
