Orthodontic Assistant

Responsibilities

• Educates patients on proper oral hygiene practices and care of braces.
• Takes intraoral photos and dental scans for orthodontic patients.
• Affixes lip tape to cleft palate patients.
• Aids in all orthodontic procedures.
• Takes dental scans of teeth for the fabrication of customized orthodontic appliances.
• Assists with sterilization and restocking of exam rooms.
• Communicates with patients, Craniofacial Orthodontist, and Craniofacial team.
• Enters notes in EPIC, Dolphin, and assigns appropriate codes.
• Uploads images to Dolphin and uses Romexis.
• Flushes vac lines and water bottles.
• Sends and tracks lab appliances.
• Collaborates with outside providers to coordinate referrals and appointments.
• Fabricates and trims orthodontic devices (retainers).

Requirements

• Knowledge of and experience in dental/medical terminology.
• Experience working in dental or healthcare environments.
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.
• Experience using electronic medical record systems (EPIC, Dolphin) or similar software.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and a certificate from an accredited dental assistant training program.
• Associates degree preferred.
• Current certificate to practice dental radiography in the state of Ohio.

• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
