Ortho Registered Nurse

About the role

Department: Medical Surgical Acute 7T. Employment Type: PRN or Per Diem. Shift availability: Variable. Hours: 3:00PM – 3:00AM with a shift differential of $2–$8. Location: Riverview Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, AL (Prime Healthcare). An orthopedic registered nurse (RN) specializes in the care of patients with musculoskeletal disorders, including post‑operative, injury, and long‑term conditions. Duties include patient assessment, pain management, wound care, and education about the recovery process.

Responsibilities

• conduct thorough initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health
• monitor vital signs, intake/output, and other clinical indicators to detect changes in patient conditions
• recognize and act on warning signs of deterioration, such as changes in heart rate, respiratory rate, or mental status
• safely administer prescribed medications (oral, IV, subcutaneous, intramuscular) and monitor for adverse effects or allergic reactions
• act as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure the patient's needs are met
• provide patient education on their condition, treatment options, and lifestyle adjustments to support recovery and prevent readmission
• communicate effectively with doctors, specialists, physical therapists, and social workers to develop and adjust care plans

Qualifications

Required:

• Current and valid state RN license
• Current BLS certificate upon hire and must maintain current

Preferred (plus):

• Current ACLS certificate (obtain within 30 days of hire and maintain)
• Previous acute care hospital experience
• Ventilator management experience
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
