About the Role

Scoular’s Origination Internship immerses you in an early-level buyer position at one of our grain facilities, where you are challenged to develop and utilize skills to build relationships with producer customers for purchasing commodities. This role will partner closely with the logistics team, accounting team, merchandisers, and facility/plant staff.

  • Collaborate: Work alongside a team of skilled originators to master the art of purchasing and selling commodities.
  • Analyze: Dive deep into local producer trends, market conditions, and economic factors, and communicate these insights to the broader team.
  • Understand Risk: Gain valuable knowledge about risk management and its pivotal role in business decisions.
  • Build Customer Relationships: Develop positive relationships with our customers, delivering outstanding service to support a competitive and sustainable operation.
  • Learn from the Best: Gain insights from experienced operations leaders in a dynamic, high-volume environment.
  • Own your Work: Contribute to daily tasks and have the opportunity to lead a project throughout the summer, showcasing your experience, learning, and recommendations to key leaders.

We have multiple locations for Origination Interns. Current locations include:

  • Waverly, Illinois
  • Pratt, Kansas
  • Adrian, Missouri
  • Coolidge, Kansas

Internship Program Overview

At Scoular, we are dedicated to developing young talent to support our customers and partners around the world. Scoular interns gain real-life experiences while learning the ins and outs of our businesses and solutions. During the 11-week program, interns create a true impact on our business by building relationships with customers, immersing themselves in our culture, and working alongside team members.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
  • Natural relationship builder who enjoys developing relationships and helping grow a business.
  • Competitive, self-motivated, and energized by achieving goals and creating value for customers.
  • Strong communicator, comfortable initiating conversations and developing relationships with new customers.
  • Curious about agriculture, commodity markets, and how market conditions impact business decisions.
  • Resilient and persistent—you understand success often comes after hearing "no."
  • Demonstrated leadership through work experience, athletics, student organizations, community involvement, military service, or other team-based activities.
  • Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies, tools, and processes.

After the Internship

Our goal is to hire our interns permanently after they graduate into a full-time position as part of our Pathways Development Program. This program is a two-year development initiative designed for new graduates, combining diverse hands-on opportunities, active networking, and continuous education. By the end of the program, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of Scoular's business and the confidence and skills to seize endless possibilities within.
