ORIENTATION & MOBILITY TEACHER

About the role

The Louisiana Special School District is seeking an LSVI Orientation & Mobility Teacher for the upcoming School Year 26/27. This is an Unclassified-Regular position, full-time, 9-months.

Responsibilities

• Implement LSDVI instructional philosophy, program, and curricula.
• Exhibit knowledge of special education rules and regulations.
• Travel throughout Louisiana to provide outreach services to children and their families.
• Administer prescribed pre and post tests to evaluate student progress.
• Provide input for decisions regarding placement of children in appropriate educational programs.
• Develop weekly lesson plans for children ages 0 – 3 for supervisory review.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
• Valid Out-of-State Teaching Certificate
• Alternative Certification Candidate with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and documented enrollment in an approved alternative teacher prep program
• Experience working with children who are blind/visually impaired
• Current Driver's License and ability to be certified through the State Driver Safety Program

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
• ACVREP or NOMC certification in Orientation & Mobility
• LA ancillary certification in Orientation & Mobility

Skills

• Knowledge of special education rules and regulations
• Ability to administer and interpret pre and post tests
• Experience with curricula and materials in teaching/learning processes
• Ability to develop lesson plans and specify learner outcomes
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills
• Reliability and punctuality
• Professional ethics and willingness to accept and use suggestions for improvement
