Orientation & Mobility Specialist (Cypress, TX)
About the role
The Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist – CONTRACTOR provides face-to-face orientation and mobility services to eligible special education students with visual impairments enrolled in virtual public schools within the K12/Stride network. Services are provided in accordance with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Responsibilities
- Provide in-person O&M assessments and direct services per IEP requirements.
- Communicate with parents, teachers, and students to develop consistent service schedules.
- Develop IEP goals relevant to the educational setting.
- Teach travel skills including sensory efficiency, cane techniques, orientation strategies, and environmental awareness.
- Provide appropriate accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology recommendations to school staff.
- Maintain compliance with state, and school regulations.
- Maintain accurate documentation including service logs and progress reports.
- Collect data to track progress toward IEP goals.
- Provide training and guidance to families and staff.
- Participate in IEP meetings and school team activities.
- Maintain a professional work environment and dependable schedule.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist.
Certificates And Licenses: Valid state certification in Orientation & Mobility as required by the state department of education.
Ability to work independently with consistent availability during typical school hours.
Experience supporting students in virtual settings.
Familiarity with assistive technology used by students with visual impairments.
Strong organization and communication skills.
Ability to travel for face-to-face O&M services.
Proficiency with basic computer systems such as MS365.
To pass background checks.
