About the role

This is a part-time, on-site role as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist serving a school located in Schertz, TX. The position is a temporary maternity coverage assignment from September 2026 through March 2027, with a 20-hour weekly schedule. You will provide services to students ages Birth-21, delivering individualized educational support, completing evaluations, and managing assigned student cases.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities
  • Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students
  • Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support
  • Assess school campuses for travel safety and recommend environmental modifications
  • Help plan safe travel routes around the school
  • Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction tailored to the student's vision level, age, and mobility needs
  • Adjust strategies for students with additional disabilities
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress
  • Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning
  • Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs
  • Guaranteed paid hours include direct services, documentation, planning, meetings, and administrative responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in Orientation & Mobility, Vision Studies, or related field preferred
  • COMS Certification (ACVREP) required or preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with children with visual impairments
  • Knowledge of orientation and mobility assessments and instruction
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearance
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical movement functions such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities

Pay

Competitive compensation of $60–$80+ per hour, with estimated weekly earnings of $1,200–$1,600+.

This position will be a W-2 employee or a 1099 contractor, with eligibility for benefits dependent on employment status.
