Organ Recovery Specialist - Lifesharing - 140728

About the role

The Organ Recovery Coordinator Specialist will perform the surgical recovery of organs intended for transplant and/or research from deceased donors at all donor hospitals and recovery facilities in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The role involves collaborating with surgeons, managing recovery devices, and providing unbiased assessments of organ quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform surgical recovery of organs from deceased donors
• Manage placement and removal of organs from mechanical preservation devices
• Coordinate surgical recovery with visiting and local recovery surgeons
• Work collaboratively with all surgeons from the Lifesharing Recovery Surgeon Network
• Provide unbiased assessment and data regarding the quality of organs recovered
• Participate in monthly quality review meetings and be a member of the Medical Advisory Committee (MAC)
• Provide 24-hour on-call coverage and be available to arrive at donor facilities to recover organs with a minimum 90 minutes notice when on call

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
• Seven (7) or more years of surgical/organ transplant or organ recovery experience
• Documentation of 10 proctored multi-organ recoveries in the past two (2) years
• Letter from their current or immediate past transplant program detailing their experience and attesting to their qualification
• Experience in organ donor call
• Experience with and thorough knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of documentation requirements
• Expert knowledge of the clinical and operational implications of deceased donor organ recoveries and /or ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes
• Advanced understanding of medical terminology and maintains a broad range of clinical expertise in theory and best practices of clinic practice area
• Proven ability to apply knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments to assess and monitor clinic operations to recommend improvements in complex clinic processes
• Superior communication skills; includes verbal and written, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills
• Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex clinic operations and advocate for clinic
• Advanced interpersonal skills
• Skills to work collaboratively; coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization
