Organ Donation Specialist - Registered Nurse/EMT Critical Care - 3rd Shift- Organ Donation

About the role

Join our team and help save lives through organ donation. As an Organ Donation Specialist, you will coordinate and manage the organ donation process from donor evaluation through recovery while providing compassionate support to donor families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and clinically manage potential organ donors.
• Coordinate the organ donation process, including donor assessment, testing, allocation, and recovery logistics.
• Communicate donor information with transplant centers, surgeons, and healthcare teams.
• Perform clinical procedures as appropriate to role and licensure.
• Collaborate with hospitals, recovery teams, and community partners to support organ donation efforts.
• Participate in education, quality improvement, and continuous learning initiatives.
• Screen for medical suitability, clinical assessment, and medical management of donor candidate, including histocompatibility and serologic testing of the donor.
• Collect and document medical data and donor medical and social history as related to the procurement process and communicate accurate and pertinent information about the donor to the transplant and/or procurement surgeons.
• Responsible for organ allocation in accordance with prevailing organ distribution policies through OPTN and work with surgical recovery teams, operating room staff, and family to determine a time for recovery.
• Meet with the potential donor family to offer donation, providing emotional support during and after the donation process. Accurately obtain and complete written consent from the legal next of kin for the purposes of organ donation.
• Perform clinical skills as appropriate (bronchoscopies, arterial lines, etc.).
• Assist Hospital Relations Liaisons with educating healthcare professionals and the public regarding organ donation; may develop, conduct, and participate in education programs for healthcare professionals and the public.
• Support and demonstrate a customer service commitment to internal and external customers through adherence to Versiti customer service standards and processes.
• Maintain competence through attendance at job-related continuing education.
• Actively participate and contribute in Lean and continuous improvement, contribute to quality assurance activities, proactively seek continued professional development.
• Understand and perform to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements set forth by AOPO (Association of Organ Procurement Organizations), OPTN, HRSA, and CMS.
• Demonstrate schedule flexibility as determined by business need, including required evening, weekend, and holiday work hours. Work/job-related travel and reliable transportation are required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an RN, NP, PA, Critical Care Paramedic, or Human Donation Science program.
• Current licensure/certification applicable to role (RN, NP, PA, or CCP-C).
• Minimum of 1 year of critical care experience required.
• Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Flexibility to work independently and with a team.

• Strong communication skills, including the ability to provide feedback to peers.
• Strong conflict resolution skills, able to communicate and collaborate with others during challenging and stressful situations.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of one of the following programs: RN, NP, PA, Critical Care Paramedic, Human Donation Science required.
• Experience: 1-3 years critical care experience required.
• Licenses and Certifications: One of the following required:
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure
  • NP - Nurse Practitioner – Licensed
  • PA - Physician Assistant
  • CCP-C - Critical Care Paramedic - Certified
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License and access to a vehicle required.

Skills

• Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• General office equipment (computer, printer, fax, copy machine, scanner).
• Familiarity with ICU equipment (IV pumps, Ventilator, GE monitor).

Schedule

• PM shift working 3 x 12-hour shifts.
• Requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as business needs dictate.
• Frequent interaction with hospital staff, transplant teams, donor families, and community partners.

The target salary is based on internal averages. Versiti sets salary ranges aligned to local markets in which the job is performed. Compensation decisions take into account internal salary averages and differentiation based on education, experience, skills, and performance. Specific salary information is shared at the time of the phone screening based on your location and qualifications.
