Responsibilities

  • Under physician and/or manager supervision, utilize skills and independent judgment to assist Oral Surgeons in performing oral surgery procedures efficiently.
  • Scrub on all types of oral surgery procedures, handle surgical instruments and materials, anticipate the needs of the Oral Surgeon, and assist as directed for both local and general anesthesia.
  • Provide general chair-side assistance including draping patients, suctioning, retraction, sponging, and chinning.
  • Anticipate Oral Surgeon needs for treatment specified for local and general anesthesia.
  • Prepare for scheduled operative procedures, ensuring necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready to use.
  • Maintain a clean and safe treatment room.
  • Remove dressings and sutures.
  • Perform point-of-care glucose testing per physician orders.
  • Perform dental radiography ensuring radiation health and safety, film exposure, and processing.
  • Provide coverage of clerical functions, such as answering phones and front desk support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Dental Assistant, or a minimum of three years of dental assisting experience with certification of completing the Michigan Dental Assisting Radiography Program.
  • BLS certification.

The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation. Receiving also offers the state’s leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit’s first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence.
