Duties and Responsibilities
- Cookbook preparation and documentation
- Maintain detailed dental records
- Travel between clinics as needed
- Be available for call as scheduled by the Dental Director/Administrative Director (AD)
- Assist the Clinic Manager/AD in supervising dental staff and ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines
- Meet productivity goals set by the Arkansas Children's Hospital organization and collaborate with the AD and dental staff to achieve these goals
- Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff, and administration
- Perform other tasks as directed by the Dental Director/AD, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals
- Supervise Dental Assistants
- Understand and promote the organization's commitment to providing high-quality patient care
- Examine and diagnose dental conditions to provide optimal care to patients
- Consult with patients/parents/guardians and advise them of dental status and required treatment
- Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options, and explain risks, benefits, and alternatives
- Analyze patient data to determine needs and treatment goals
- Collaborate with other specialists to plan treatments
- Record patient care by maintaining detailed notes of appointments, including comments, tests, and treatments prescribed, and test results
- Administer general and local anesthetics, when necessary
- Perform surgical procedures to extract impacted or damaged teeth, place dental implants, and remove tumors and other abnormal growths
- Prescribe medication to improve recovery and control pain after procedures
- Treat infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaw, face, and neck
- Provide emergency treatment of orofacial injuries including facial lacerations, intraoral lacerations, and fractured facial bones
- Perform minor cosmetic procedures, such as chin and cheekbone enhancements
- Support and advise patients receiving long-term care
- Conduct research on defects, diseases, and disorders affecting the oral and/or facial regions
- Prepare charts and determine the most feasible treatment plan
- Administer anesthetics to limit pain during procedures
- Promote professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, receiving current literature, and attending in-service meetings and workshops
Requirements
- Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) and successful completion of an oral surgery residency approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation
- Certifications: PALS, BLS
