Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (part time) - School of Dental Medicine

About the role

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon provides training in diagnosis, treatment planning, sequencing, and the actual treatment of assigned patients in the specialty of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. This position is part-time, with the potential to work up to 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Advise third year dental students during consultations in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
• Provide third year dental students with basic practice training in oral diagnosis and treatment planning, oral and maxillofacial surgery, simple and surgical tooth extractions, soft tissue impactions, alveoloplasty, pre-prosthetic surgery, and maxillary and mandibular tori reduction
• Evaluate oral pathology of hard and soft tissues and perform soft tissue biopsies
• Teach students to refer to a private oral surgeon for cases beyond the scope of teaching third year dental students
• Respond to and supervise emergency situations in the LECOM - Dental Group Practices
• Supervise the administration of nitrous oxide for sedation during oral surgical procedures
• Teach general dentistry faculty basic oral surgery procedures
• Communicate effectively with students and patients, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Teach and develop student outcomes, contributing to the mission of LECOM and participating in institutional fundraising and the LECOM Scholarship Auction
• Participate in scholarly activities to enrich and broaden the student learning experience
• Represent LECOM in the community through involvement in boards, fundraisers, and outreach programs

Requirements

• Advanced training from an ADA-accredited Oral Surgery training program
• A current Pennsylvania dental license (or the ability to obtain one)
• At least ten (10) years of experience practicing Oral Surgery
