Position Summary
Assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

- Participate in activities to accomplish efficient room turnover including cleaning of floor and furniture, removal of used equipment supplies instrumentation, providing appropriate equipment for next procedure.
- Demonstrate appropriate identification, handling, and processing of specimens.
- Demonstrate knowledge of and assure maintenance of aseptic technique throughout the surgical procedure; identify and communicate, to surgical team, any breaks in technique and assist with corrective actions.
- Communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader, co-workers and other members of the health care team.
Qualifications
- Successfully completed a nationally accredited Surgical Technology program and hold a Surgical Technologist Certification from a national certifying body recognized by the Department of Public Health: The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (CST) or the National Center for Competency Testing (TS-C).
- Candidates without current certification who have successfully completed an accredited Surgical Technologist program, but has not, as of the date of hire, obtained a Surgical Technologist Certification must obtain such certification within 90 days of hire from a national certifying body recognized by the Department of Public Health: The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (CST) or the National Center for Competency Testing (TS-C).
- Surgical Technicians who acted within the role of a Surgical Technician (Operating Room Technician) on, or before October 1, 2023, may be grandfathered in per CT Public Act 23-195.
- Maintain Certification while employed in this role.
- Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire or receive certification within the new employee introductory orientation period and maintain clinical competency during employment within this role.
