About the role

HCA Healthcare is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and integrity. This role is based at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in west Miami-Dade County.

Responsibilities

• Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
• Prepares sterile instrument table and gathers equipment after procedure for cleaning and sterilization.
• Accurately completes sponge, sharp, and instrument counts and reports discrepancies.
• Positions patient according to surgery type.
• Prepares patient skin for surgery.
• Provides comfort and support to pre-operative patients.
• Transports patients to and from surgical suite.
• Assists surgical team during procedures, including passing instruments, sponges, and sutures.
• Cleans and prepares room between procedures and after last case; restocks supplies and organizes effectively.
• Maintains a safe work area.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Operating Room Scrub Technician Certification (CST).
• Prior experience as an OR TECH, preferably with completion of an Accredited Surgical Scrub Technician Program.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
• 1 year minimum experience as an OR TECH.

Specialty-Specific Responsibilities

Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations that could breach aseptic technique.

Properly handles specimens: Identifies specimen appropriately with the physician, maintains specimens during the procedure, and checks with surgeon prior to passing off field.

Obtains specific supplies, non-narcotic medications, and equipment: Checks preference cards prior to case and makes arrangements to obtain special supplies.
