OR/Surgical Services Tech

About the role

Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking an OR/Surgical Services Technician to ensure surgical rooms and instruments are sterilized, equipped, and supplied appropriately. This role is equivalent to a circulating nurse in human medicine.

Various working hours between 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., including weekend and holiday call. This position involves direct contact with animals susceptible to rabies. Employees must complete a rabies pre-exposure vaccination series and maintain adequate rabies antibody titer (≥0.5 IU/mL) as recommended by CDC guidelines. Auburn University will cover the cost of the vaccination series, periodic titer checks, and any necessary boosters.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons by retrieving needed surgical instruments and equipment from surgical supply.
• Clean operating rooms between surgical cases and ensure rooms are ready for the next case.
• Position patients for surgery and perform aseptic prep of the surgery site.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms.
• Decontaminate and sterilize instrumentation using an autoclave and a vaporized hydrogen peroxide sterilizer.
• Maintain surgical packs and instruments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Level I: High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices OR Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 0 years of Surgical Services or Practices.
• Level II: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of Surgical Services or Practices OR Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 1 year of Surgical Services or Practices.
• Level III: High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of Surgical Services or Practices OR Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Surgical Technology, Veterinary Technology, or related field and 2 years of Surgical Services or Practices.

Qualifications

• Experience in surgical services practices.
• Preferred certifications: CRCST (Certified and Registered Central Service Technician) or CSPDT (Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech).
