About the role
The OR RN provides nursing care and service during surgery cases. The OR RN will be responsible for positioning the patient, prepping the patient, and circulating the case. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for all age patients in operating room. Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments as well as team members.
Responsibilities
- Positions and preps the patient for surgery.
- Circulates the case, assisting the surgeon and other surgical staff.
- Affirms and implements care plans based on assessments.
- Evaluates patient responses to treatment and reports significant findings to the surgical team.
- Communicates with physicians, patients, family members, and other departmental personnel.
- Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs.
- Serves on committees, participates in quality improvement audits and projects, as designated by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room and/or Director of Nursing.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited RN School of Nursing.
- Active RN license in PABLS, ACLS, or PALS required upon hire and required within one year of hiring date.
- Ability to scrub and circulate as needed.
- One year experience required in intra-operative setting.
