Essential Functions

  • Provides treatment of the visual system within the scope of optometric licensure, including writing prescriptions for ophthalmic spectacles, contact lenses, orthoptics and non-optical aids.
  • Provides additional specialized testing and therapy, as needed

Maintains Compliance

  • Maintains compliance with all current organizational, state and federal regulations pertaining to Optometry.

Provides Care

  • Provides complete high quality optometric/vision care services.
  • Assures that patients receive appropriate routine eye exams and urgent care, as well as other vision care that is appropriate in the care setting.
  • Makes referrals to specialists or other providers when medically necessary.
  • Maintains patient treatment monitoring and coordination.
  • Ensures that documentation of care meets established quality standards.

Collaborates with Others

  • Works cooperatively with the other members of the Clinic management team to assure a smooth vision Clinic operation and on all patient care issues.
  • Responds to patient concerns about care issues and works to solve problems and improve patient care.
  • Aids in incident report preparation, investigation, and follow-up.

Develops Protocols

  • Develops vision care protocols, policies and procedures to assure compliance with accepted standards of quality.

Teaches and Mentors

  • Assists in teaching and mentoring optometric students.

Supports Research

  • Serves as a resource for physicians and Clinic staff regarding vision/patient care issues.
  • Participates in studies to develop cost benefit information for the primary care vision Clinic.
  • Assists in eye related research, as needed.

Additional Duties

  • Assists in responding to patient concerns about care issues and works to solve problems and improve patient care.
  • Aids in incident report preparation, investigation, and follow-up.
  • Aids in the promotion of the vision/medical Clinic.
  • Covers after hour clinic calls (via Dial MD) in rotation with other providers.
  • Serves as first call for hospital on call coverage in conjunction with Clinical Service Chief (in rotation with other providers).

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited college or university in the school of Optometry
  • Previous experience working in pediatrics preferred
  • Current and valid state license as an Optometrist
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
