Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes.

Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

• Counsels patients on the importance of proper eye care and hygiene.
• Performs comprehensive eye exams including vision tests, refraction, and ocular health assessments.
• Diagnoses and treats various eye conditions such as refractive errors, cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy.
• Maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and protects and maintains the safety of persons and property.
• Collaborates with other healthcare providers to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.
• Documents findings and treatments in patient records.

Qualifications

Requires a Doctor of Optometry degree from an accredited college or university.

Must be licensed to practice optometry in the State of California.

Must have a current DEA license.

Must have a minimum of two years of clinical experience in a correctional facility setting.

Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.

Benefits

The position offers a monthly part-time salary range of $3,891.50 to $5,159.50.
