About the role
In this role, you will support vital healthcare operations that ensure patients receive timely, high-quality care.
Responsibilities
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures.
- Provides comprehensive primary eye care, including examination, diagnosis, and treatment of ocular diseases and disorders.
- Provides emergency ocular care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Requirements
This is a competitive vacancy announcement advertised under Delegated Examining Authority. Selections made under this vacancy announcement will be processed as new appointments to the civil service. Current civil service employees would therefore be given new appointments to the civil service; however, benefits, time served, and all other Federal entitlements would remain the same.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Optometry from an accredited program.
- A current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- One year completion of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training, or one year of professional experience as an optometrist that is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.
Benefits

Physical Demands
The work involves walking, sitting, standing, reaching and bending in the assessment and treatment of patients.
Background Investigation Requirement
This position requires the successful completion of a federal background investigation as a condition of employment.
Financial Suitability Requirement
