Optometric Technician - Medical Assistant - Part Time - Bilingual Spanish

About the role

The optometric technician plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient flow by assisting the optometrist through pre-screenings and testing prior to examinations. This position does not require optical experience or certification—training is provided. All locations are closed on Sundays.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high-quality patient care and maintain a professional atmosphere in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
• Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
• Explain preliminary examinations to patients.
• Complete necessary paperwork and perform pre-examination testing on patients.
• Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
• Perform exam pre-screening and review prescriptions or patient information to identify special needs.
• Consult with opticians, doctors, or retail management as needed.
• Ensure proper maintenance of doctor’s and pre-test equipment.

Requirements

• Fluent in reading and speaking both English and Spanish.
• Previous retail or optical experience preferred but not required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to learn optical knowledge and provide clear instructions to customers.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong multitasking and time-management abilities.
• Professional attitude and appearance.
