Optometric Technician - Medical Assistant - Part Time

About the Role

At America's Best, part of National Vision, the optometric technician plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient flow and assisting the optometrist by conducting pre-screenings and testing prior to the doctor’s examination. This position helps ensure high-quality patient care by performing valuable vision tests that aid the optometrist in providing the best care possible. No prior optical experience or certification is required—training is provided.

Responsibilities

• Ensure high-quality patient care and maintain a professional atmosphere in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
• Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
• Explain preliminary examination types to patients.
• Complete necessary paperwork and perform pre-examination testing on patients.
• Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
• Perform exam pre-screening and review prescriptions or patient information to identify special needs.
• Consult with opticians, doctors, or retail management as needed.
• Ensure proper maintenance of doctor’s and pre-test equipment.

Requirements

• Previous retail or optical experience preferred but not required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to learn optical knowledge quickly.
• Clear and concise communication when instructing customers.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
• Detail-oriented with strong multitasking skills.
