About the Role
At America's Best, part of National Vision, the optometric technician plays a key role in maintaining efficient patient flow and assisting the optometrist by conducting pre-screenings and testing prior to the doctor’s examination. This position helps ensure high-quality patient care by performing valuable vision tests that aid the optometrist in providing the best care possible. No prior optical experience or certification is required—training is provided.
Responsibilities
- Ensure high-quality patient care and maintain a professional atmosphere in the doctor’s office and pretest room.
- Understand ocular terminology, diseases, and abbreviations.
- Explain preliminary examination types to patients.
- Complete necessary paperwork and perform pre-examination testing on patients.
- Promote visual field testing and retinal screenings to eligible patients.
- Perform exam pre-screening and review prescriptions or patient information to identify special needs.
- Consult with opticians, doctors, or retail management as needed.
- Ensure proper maintenance of doctor’s and pre-test equipment.
Requirements
- Previous retail or optical experience preferred but not required.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Ability to learn optical knowledge quickly.
- Clear and concise communication when instructing customers.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Detail-oriented with strong multitasking skills.
