Optometric Technician - Medical Assistant

About the role

The optometric technician plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient patient flow and providing essential pre-screenings and testing prior to the optometrist’s examination. This position requires strong customer service skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to maintain a clean and organized environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional atmosphere and appearance of the doctor’s office and pretest room.
• Understand and explain ocular terminology and diseases, including relevant abbreviations.
• Complete necessary paperwork and perform preliminary examinations on patients.
• Promote and conduct visual field testing and retinal screenings as needed.
• Conduct exam pre-screening and review prescriptions or patient information carefully.
• Consult with the optician, optometrist, or retail management when necessary.
• Ensure that all equipment, both for the doctor and pre-test room, is properly maintained.

Qualifications

• Previous retail or optical experience is preferred, but not required.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Able to learn and teach optical knowledge effectively.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to manage time efficiently.
• A professional attitude and appearance.

Schedule

Must be available to work on Saturdays and Sundays, with every Sunday off.
