Responsibilities
- Display a professional image, greet patients promptly, and answer the telephone in a friendly manner.
- Assist the optometrist in eye examinations by obtaining medical history, preparing patients, and performing pre-examination tests with accuracy.
- Perform tests to aid the optometrist in diagnosis and treatment, ensuring timely and attentive care.
- Review prescriptions and patient information carefully, identifying special needs and consulting with team members as necessary.
- Handle difficult or indecisive patients with patience and courtesy.
- Manage work accurately under time pressure and high patient volume.
- Resolve unsatisfied patient situations quickly and effectively.
- Demonstrate knowledge of appointment scheduling, computer procedures, and HIPAA-compliant record handling.
- Support exam retention through follow-up calls (confirmations, no-show callbacks, and NEE calls).
- Place contact lens trial orders, maintain the contact lens room, and ensure no expired contacts are present.
- Input patient data, insurance information, and prescription details accurately using the CIAO system.
- Maintain a safe working environment and support visual merchandising compliance in exam areas.
- Adapt to various examination scenarios while maintaining a personable demeanor with patients and staff.
- Provide coaching and guidance to patients on contact lens care and handling.
- Maintain and disinfect equipment, monitor inventory, and provide clinical support to the optometrist.
- Support retail operations as patient demand allows.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum of one year of strong customer service skills (internal/external).
- Leadership skills and strong communication/listening abilities.
- Problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of office environments and basic math skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in retail and/or optical.
- Experience in healthcare.
